Mustang Sally

Mustang Sally_1 Mustang Sally_2 Mustang Sally_3 Mustang Sally_4 Mustang Sally_5

Dress: No label...but made in the USA
Shoes: BCBG
Purse: Vintage
Three strand faux-pearl necklace: Forever 21
Bracelets: Gifted
Big fabulous silver ring: Gift from my boyfriend
Nails: Essie "No Place Like Chrome"
Lips:  Mac lipglass in "Russian Red"

This is the last of the Hot August Nights series for my blog.  I may add another because I really enjoyed putting together outfits inspired by the '50s-'60s.  These pictures were actually taken a week after we returned from Nevada.

My boyfriend purchased this dress for me during our stay at the Silver State.  It was only $25 at the swap meet in Reno!  I think it's perfect for any show and shine...which is why I added chrome details to this outfit.   For years, I searched for a dress that had  a Mustang on it.  I could never find one.  While I admire and appreciate every other car that is printed on this dress, there is no car for me like the Mustang.  Sorry guys, but 'vettes are for kids!  ;)  Just kidding...Corvettes are pretty sweet too.

Listen to this:

Have a wonderful Wednesday!

The Birth of Venus

The Birth of Venus_1 The Birth of Venus_2 The Birth of Venus_3 The Birth of Venus_4 The Birth of Venus_5

Romper:  Free People
Sandals: Steve Madden (old)
Clutch: Unbranded, but a gift from Annie
Flowers: From my garden...I bobby pinned them onto my hair
Nail polish: Essie "Lilacism"
Lipstick: Mac "Girl About Town"

Although this outfit was inspired by the late 1960s, these pictures remind me of Botticelli's "The Birth of Venus."  It's kind of funny how similar some of my poses are compared to the model in the painting...LOL!  This was completely unintentional.  :)

This is the Free People New Romantics Love Me Do Romper.  I can't tell you how absolutely stunning the fabric is in person.  It's now of the most unique and beautiful pieces I have in my closet.  It's currently on sale at Free People so get it while you can!

These pictures are Part 2 of my Hot August Nights series.  What do you guys think of it so far?  Here's some music to put you in that 1967 mood:

...and here's a cover by Jimi:

Have a great weekend!

Hot August Nights!

Hot August Nights_3 Hot August Nights_4 Hot August Nights_2 Hot August Nights_1 Hot August Nights_5
Ruffle neck top: Epic (gift from Annie)
DIY shorts (that were pants): Ralph Lauren
Red suede belt: Vintage
Purse: Vintage
Black bow pumps: Dollhouse (I've walked literally miles in these and they are sooo comfy!)
Lips: Mac Lipglass in "Russian Red"
Nails: Essie "Lilacism" Outfit inspiration: '50s diner.  Coincidentally, I had a burger, fries, and a milkshake just before these pictures were taken :) Yum!

I'm pretty sure I was born in the wrong era.  There is something so appealing to me about the 1950s and 1960s that I can't quite put my finger on.  It must be a combination of music, fashion, and cars that I will always hold a special place in my heart for.  It was a time of beehives,  rock and roll, the fabulous and unforgettable Jacque O., silhouettes in fashion that we now consider classic, and beautiful chrome clad vehicles.  Except for the Vietnam War, everything about the '50s and '60s seems so enticing.  But I will always remember this era for giving birth to the all American muscle car.  I naturally gravitate towards vintage and vintage inspired clothes, shoes, jewelry, and especially cars...all of which belong to time I never lived in.  I even own a classic muscle car.  See?  I told you I belong to the '60s!

So for the next few posts, I'm going to showcase a few outfits I wore in celebration of the '50s and '60s for Reno, NV's Hot August Nights.  If you love classic cars, you need to go to H.AN.  It's one of the biggest classic car shows in the world which takes place for about a week during the month of August. Nightly cruises, drag races, car auctions, concerts, their own prom, and daily car shows are just a few of the fun activities there.  Oh, and music like this playing all day long:

Hope you all enjoyed this post!  :)

Mermaid

Mermaid_1 Mermaid_2

Cropped eyelet top:  ASOS
High waist mint jeans:  ASOS
Necklace, bracelet, rings:  Gifted, vintage
Tote:  ?
Sandals:  Alfani
Lips:  Mac lipstick in "Girl About Town"
Nails:  OPI in "Mermaid's Tears"

These pictures were taken about a week and a half ago.  I actually meant to post outfit pictures from my recent trip before these.  Unfortunately, in the chaos of packing and checking out of our room I left my USB cable and camera charger in the hotel.  Now you guys have to wait until I can find a replacement charger :/  It's kind of a bummer because I put together some really cute outfits for my trip that were inspired by the 50s and late 60s.  On the plus side I had so much fun with my boyfriend this past week.  Our little vacation was like a dream...and was very much needed as well  :)  I can't wait to share those pictures with you.  It might take me a week (or more!).

Oh, and this is totally random but I thought I would point it out because it's really bugging me.  I look like I have 6 toes on one foot because my foot isn't slipped into my sandal all the way.     I know you noticed it too.  If you didn't, good lol.  And to make things more awkward, now you know what my belly button looks like.

Ok, well that's enough rambling.  I really hope you're all having a good week so far.  Did you do anything fun this weekend?   Come on...you can tell me  ;)

Stripes

Stripes_1 Stripes_2

Sleeveless blouse:  BCBG
Skirt:  Forever 21 (I bought it like 6 years ago for $5!)
Silver sandals:  Alfani from Macy's (4 years old)
Bracelet:  Vintage
Lips:  Mac lipstick in "Impassioned"
Nails:  Zoya in "SUVI"

I haven't worn this top in about a year.  But I'm glad I brought it out again because I like the subtle stripes on it with the bolder stripes on my skirt.  I've been wearing neglected items a lot lately :)  I mean, it's about time I wore this skirt that I bought 6 years ago...LOL!  Do any of you ever do that?  Come on...I know I'm not the only one that hoards clothes here.  ;)

Hope you guys have a fabulous week and thanks for reading!

Mystical

Mystical_2 Mystical_3 Mystical_4 Mystical_1

Unicorn top:  Forever 21(my boyfriend bought it for me)
White jeans:  Topshop
Basic white leather tennis shoes:  Keds
Pink leather purse:  Vintage
Lips:  Mac lipstick in "Dear Diary"

When I was in kindergarden, my teacher Mrs. L had our class draw an animal of our choice.  The assignment was to draw any animal we could think of and then share it with the class.   But before the  class saw the drawing, they had to guess what the animal was that we chose based on a series of simple questions.  Sounds pretty easy, right?  At the time, I was a huge fan of The Little Mermaid so I went ahead and started drawing the prettiest mermaid I could think of.  As I was busy scribbling bright red hair on a stick figure, my teacher walked up to me.  She said, "What's that?"  I told her, "A mermaid."  Duh.  It was pretty obvious.  "You can't draw a mermaid."  Confused, I asked her why.  "A mermaid is not a real animal."  I ignored her and kept drawing, but this persistent teacher kept telling me that I could not draw a mermaid because "they are not real animals".  So I had to start over as she watched.  As she stared at me in disbelief I said to her, "I'm going to draw a unicorn."  Clearly, that woman lacked any sort of imagination.

Over the past 6 months, I've seen many 90s inspired t-shirts and other garments with these mystical one-horned creatures.  It really got me thinking...did unicorns ever exist or were they really just a creature that we created in fairy tales?  I did some digging and you might be surprised by what I found out.

As some of you may know, unicorns were mentioned several times in the Bible.  Although they were never described as being horse-like in the Bible, many people simply take this as proof that anything in the Bible is phony and made up because to this day there is no living proof that these animals ever existed.  It turns out that the word unicorn comes from the latin word unicornis, which refers to a one horned animal that is similar to the rhino.  So the beautiful, mythical unicorns that we know today are completely made up.  Real unicorns (those mentioned in older dictionaries and in the Bible) were much more stalky, bulky, and nothing like the graceful horse-like unicorns we imagine.  These rhino-like "unicorns" did in fact exist.  I only wish I had known this 20 years ago ;)
